Fight like a Girl

Alexa is also known as “Pixie” or “Pixie Jane”.  She is a 12 year old sixth grade, nature-loving homeschooler who lives with her mum and grandparents.  She adores all things magical, having a very impressive gnome and troll collection. Her favorite colors are purple and blue. She loves to sing and learn to play musical instruments, she was learning viola however her portacath makes it uncomfortable to hold the viola so she moved on to trumpet, which has been a challenge with the chemo induced mouthsores.

Alexa is a prolific reader, her favorite book is Coraline by Neil Gaiman and she adores the series by Rick Riordan as well as the Sisters Grimm series.  She loves mysteries, ghost stories, fantasy stories, historic novels, folklore but will read anything.   She loves to learn new things and is always asking questions or trying to figure out the whys and hows of things. Her current interest is Ancient Egyptian history, namely what role their religion played in their daily lives as well as death and burial rituals.

Her most favorite past time is going to the beach and beachcombing. She loves to fish, take nature walks/hikes, cook, birdwatch, take photos, and collecting crystals and stones (and can tell you the healing properties of most of them!). She has inherited her mother’s, great-grandfather’s and great-great-grandfather’s talent of hand-feeding wild birds however with her current treatment and subsequent compromised immune system, her favorite past times of digging in the dirt and handling birds are forbidden. In the meantime, she spends time learning to knit and crochet and doing a lot of boxing on the Wii, until such time that she can get involved in the actual sport (or kickboxing, judo or karate, she hasn’t decided yet).

Her favorite tv program is Psych followed closely by Dr Who, she loves the old episodes right up to David Tennant’s (whom she adores) Doctor. Other favorites include Ghost Hunters, and Phineas and Ferb.
