How To Help

Donations

*Donate Blood: Alexa’s is improving because of those who donated their type O+ blood

*Donate Platelets: Time consuming but a life saver, platelet transfusions have saved Alexa’s life on more than one occasion.

Childhood Cancer Lifeline of NH-This organization helps and supports families in NH who have a child who was diagnosed with cancer. It is because of them that Alexa had such wonderful times at their Camp Winning Spirit on Labor Day weekend and will be returning for years to come.

Financial Help

Since Alexa’s diagnosis and subsequent two week hospital stay April/May 2010, Alexa’s mum Stephanie has been on unpaid leave. Stephanie is Alexa’s sole caregiver and with her savings now drained and very little income at present they are struggling financially. The government has regularly refused assistance, apart from medical insurance for Alexa, and this leaves little resources for Steph and Alexa. Alexa’s blood counts drop frequently due to chemotherapy treatments and she is at risk if she develops fevers. When that happens she is admitted to the hospital for antibiotics, transfusions and observation. These visits will frequently last about a week, sometimes more, sometimes less. Currently you may find a donation jar at Tilton House of Pizza in Tilton, NH which has been a wonderful help with gas money to get Alexa to and from her weekly clinic visits and occasional hospital stays.

What is Needed:
As Alexa enters maintenance we begin to direct more of our focus to helping her friends at CHaD, Alexa is a very giving girl (as those of you who know her are aware) and wants to make sure that kids staying at CHaD have small, cosy comforts to help ease the stress of a hospital stay.

-Fluffy Soft throw pillows
-Fleece Blankets, Lap Quilts, Afghans (when using yarn please consider the sensitivity of the fiber, the softer the better!!)

Art and Craft Supplies Donation Drive: Alexa and her mum started this drive after her September hospital stay when she found supplies lacking a bit. We made the first donation delivery December 2010 and it was happily and excitedly received. They aim to continue to have this donation drive twice a year to help out the kids and CHaD, planning deliveries for March and December.
